San Marco Belgian chenille tapestry features a stunning view of Venice, Italy. With its web of canals, Venice has long been a center for sea trade. Ships from all over the world gathered in the harbors and plied the canals to deliver goods from far away places. At the height of its prosperity, one can imagine being able to cross the piazza simply by stepping from one boat to another as they lay at anchor. This scene captures daily life in Venice beautifully. Taking place in the Piazza San Marco, the canals are overflowing with small boats and gondolas. Of course, these traditional gondolas can still be seen today, plying the same waters they did centuries ago. Though today, they are more likely to carry tourists than transport valuable cargoes, as they did in days gone by.
