This Jules Pansu tapestry Lecture Et Concert is a French woven jacquard wall tapestry. This artwork is an extract from an original medieval tapestry. It celebrates the art of music and study of the written word. A lady plays a hammered dulcimer and the gentleman a flute or pipes. Their colorful and elaborate garb suggest they are courtiers or nobility. On the right we see a lady heeding her tutor, who recites from a scroll. In medieval times, learning and reading was only for the royalty and nobles of the realm. A park-like scene on a mille fleur style background, typical of medieval decor of the time, forms the backdrop.
